Mrs. Carrie Dahl

Carrie Dahl, daughter of Erick Challe and Anna Anderson, was born on July 21, 1901, on a farm near Jewell, Iowa. She passed away on Jan 2, 1972, at the age of 70 years, five months, and 12 days from congestive heart failure. She died at Lakeland General hospital, Lakeland, Fla.

She graduated from the Jewell High school and Jewell Lutheran college, and attended Des Moines University. She taught school several years in the Hamilton county school system.

Mrs. Dahl was baptized and confirmed in the Bethesda Lutheran church at Jewell.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and the American Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of Radcliffe Better Homes and Garden club; Hamilton County Gold Star Mothers; American Legion Auxiliary; women's Study club; Sons of Norway; and the Iowa State Horticultural Society. She was a member of the Iowa Judges Council; Iowa Rose Society; American Rose Society; and was a master judge of the National Council of State Garden clubs, and a National Rose Society judge.

On October 3, 1923, she was united in marriage to Arlen A Dahl. This union was blessed with five children. The family made their home on a farm northeast of Ellsowrth.

She is survived by her husband, Arlen, of Ellsworth; two daughters, Mrs. Archie (Kathleen) Halvorson of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. William (Alyce Ann) Katter of Farner, Iowa; one son, Sterling Dahl of Jewell, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Gust (Bertha) Berglund of Stratford, Iowa, two brothers, Erick Challe of Story City, Iowa, and Ed Challe of Jewell, Iowa; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; thress sisters: Annie Hanson, Christina Harmon and Ellen Sampson, two brothers: Ben Challe and Nels Challe; a son, Arlen Carroll, who was killed in action durin ght Korean conflict, and a son, Eugene Gaylord, who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan 7, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with the Rev. R. D. Ehlers officiating. Burial was in the Homewood cemetery of Ellsworth.

Pallbearers were: Harold Applegate, Harold Bergland, Gerald Hill, Eldyn Hill, Rolen Hill and Robert Olthoff.
