Mabelle Mary S. Bonner, daughter of Anna Jennie Stransky and Charles William Lane Clair, was born Dec. 10, 1896 rural Jewell and passed away Monday, Jan 20 at 12:45 p.m. at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. She entered the Webster City hospital on Jan 4 and was transferred to Mary Greeley Medical Center on Jan 10. She attended Jewell Lutheran college. The family farmed near Jewell and lived in Tapper, N. D. for 6 years. She worked at various cafes in this area and also worked at the Hawkeye Mink plant retiring when she was 78 years old.

Mrs. Bonner was a member of the federated United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary and Senior Citizens.

On Oct. 28 1914 she was married to Charles H. M. Staples and he passed away Sept. 11, 1959 and she later married Fred Wm. Bonner and he died March 13, 1968.

Surviving include five daughters, Clarice Broom of Huntington, Ind., Florence Frick of Rome City, Ind., Emma Lou Kerns of Seattle, Wash., Mabelle Romp of Stanhope, six sons, Lester B Staples of Edmonds, Wash., George W., Charles M., Russell L., Richard A. and Kenneth E Staples all of Jewell. Fifty grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Clair of Jewell and Elmer Clair of Webster City and seven sisters, Blanche Church of Sheffield, Emma Rabe, Belle Plaine, Lucille Olson, Boone, Frances Broom, Jewell, Gladys Ruppeal of Tucson, Arizona, Clarice Burnsmeier, of Webster City, and June Egland of Rochester, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 4 sisters, Lizzie Schleisman, Florence Hogan, Bertha Fortune, Gertrude Clair, and two brothers, Howard and Benjamin Clair.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Federated United Church of Christ with Rev. Carl Jensen officiating and burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell. Six of her grandchildren, accompanied by a granddaughter, Cindy Caruth, sang. Pallbearers were sons: Lester, George, Charles, Russell, Richard, and Kenneth Staples.
