Death of Mrs. D. I. Martin
Mrs. D. I. Martin died at the hospital at Rochester, Minnesota, Friday night, after a lingering illness. She was taken to the hospital a week ago last Thursday In the hope of regaining health, but without avail. She underwent an operation and was unable to rally from its effects. Fannie M. Hadlock was the daughter of Peter and Sarah Hadlock, and was born May 25,1841. in Crawford county; Pennsylvania. They came west in 1850 and settled in 'what is now Hardin county. Mr. Hadlock homesteaded the farm on which now stands Eagle City. Married to David I. Martin June 12, 1860. To their union were born six children, viz: James C., Frankie, Willie, May, Charley and Albert J. Of these, three died while little children. James C., .of Grinnell; May (now Mrs. A. J. Bish) of this city. and Albert J. of Unionville, Missouri. with their father survive her. The family moved from Hardin to Hamilton county in the fall of 1879, locating on a farm in Fremont township, from where they moved to Webster City Nov. 2, 1880. Into the property that has ever since been the home of Father and Mother Martin. At intervals for the past twenty years, Mrs. Martin had suffered with severe illness resulting from gall stones. The most severe attack was that of last August, when her recovery was despaired of, but from which she rallied temporarily. There was, however, but one hope for her recovery and that lay in on operation. This she was determined to undergo, and in company with her daughter, Mrs. A. J. Bish, went to the hospital at Rochester, Minn.. where she was operated upon by specialists. Her condition was found to be so serions from the gall-stone trouble and degeneration of the liver that there were small hopes of her recovery. The operation was performed Tuesday morning and she died Friday, Oct. 31st at 6:54 p. m. She had been a member of the Christian church for forty years, although for several years during the time when there was no local organization of that denomination she was a member of the M. E. church. She was a member of the local W. R. C., with which she united shortly after its organization. Mrs. Martin was a good woman and was beloved by a wide circle of friends and esteemed by acquaintances. She was a loyal wife, a kind and generous mother, and leaves a void around the family hearthstone that can never be filled. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Burns of the Christian church conducting the service.
