G.D. Warland, 78, Webster City, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home.
Garwin Dale Warland, son of Sam and Amanda Vig Warland, was born October 20, 1924 at Badger. He received his education at schools in Fort Dodge and Webster City. He entered the radio broadcasting field in 1942, being associated with stations in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. He returned to Webster City in 1949, where he joined KJFJ Radio as the station was built. On November 12, 1950, he married Audrey Jean Harridge in the former English Lutheran Church at Webster City. The couple resided at Webster City. During his tenure of over 35 years with KJFJ, then KQWC, he held every position from staff announcer to general manager to news director. He retired in 1993. He had resided at Crestview Senior Living since January of 2000.
G.D. is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons and daughters, Randy and Gina Roberts of Lisbon; Greg Warland of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Michael Reese, Waterloo; grandchildren, Lucas, Seth, Zeke, and Levi Roberts; Brian Reese and Amanda Lincoln; Daniel and Laura Eddy; Ashleigh and Courtney Warland; several great-grandchildren; sister Donna Benegas of Marion; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Eddy, in 1982; and a sister, Mardella Bakken.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, past city coucilman, past Justice of the Peace, former Acting Police Judge, a longtime Magistrate, reporter for the Des Moines Register, Amateur Radio operator, and former gun collector.
