Myrtle Bjerkestrand, 89, Story City, a former Radcliffe resident, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003. The first service will be held at 10 a.m. at Bethany Manor in Story City, and then a service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Myrtle Bjerkestrand will be buried at Rose Grove Cemetery, rural Williams. There will be no visitation. Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe has charge of the arrangements.
Myrtle Olivian Nosback was born August 12, 1913 in Carpio, ND to Nels and Bertha Halsne Nosback. She was raised on the homestead near Aneroid, Saskatchewan, Canada. She received her education at South Pinto country school and Aneroid High School. While visiting her uncle's farm near Williams, she met Alvaun Hoversten and they were married at Aneroid in 1937. They farmed near Williams and Alden until his death in 1952. Myrtle remained on the farm and raised her family by upholstering furniture, sewing, and managing the farm. In 1959, she married Joseph Bjerkestrand of Radcliffe. Following Joe's death in 1995, she moved in 1996 to Story City and lived with her eldest daughter, Lorna, until she entered Bethany Manor in 2001. Myrtle's special interests were her family, quilting, gardening, church work, and flower arranging. She will long be remembered for her creativity and generous spirit.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Orville. She is survived by two sisters, Judith Corbin and Anne (George) Gabrielson, plus three nephews, a niece and 11 great-and four great-great nieces and nephews, all of Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada; three daughters, Lorna Hoversten of Story City; Linda (Noel) Singer, Webster City, and their children, Jason of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karla of Minneapolis, Minn., and Keith (Nikki Allen) of Denver; Sylvia (Steven) Minear of Kansas City, Kan., and their sons, Marc and Clinton, Emporia, Kan. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Joan (Charles) Gangstad of Clarion, Tom, Jim and Nicholas; and Naomi (Robert) Bagley of Oakdale, Minn., Nathan, Paul, Joel, Ruth, Lisa, and eighteen step-great-grandchildren.
