DEATH OF A PIONEER

Stanhope Mail: On February 7, 1903, occurred the death of David McFarland, at the age of 73 years. Deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of this county, having moved here in 1855. He was born in Champaign county, Ohio, on April 28, 1829, and at the age of sixteen went with his parents to Illinois, where in 1854 he was married to Elizabeth Duckett. They came to Hamilton county in 1855, and with the exception of two years spent in Kansas, Mr. McFarland was thereafter a continuous resident of Iowa until the day of his death. Six sons and six daughters were born to the couple, of whom there are now living James, J. L., Edwared, Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Laura Johnson and Mrs. Ells Kepler.
