Military Rites Here Saturday
Military services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Foster funeral home for Pfc. Truman Sharkey who lost his life in World War II. Rev. J. T. Stewart will officiate and burial will be made in Graceland Cemetery.
Truman D. Sharkey, son of the late David Paul Sharkey and Mrs. Laura A. Sharkey, was born August 31, 1918 in Madison County, Minn. When he was two years of age, the family moved to Webster City where he graduated from Lincoln high school in 1938.
Pfc. Sharkey left Webster City with the Iowa National Guard in February 1941 and had been overseas since January 1942, having served in Ireland, England and North Africa before transferring to Italy. He was serving as an automatic rifleman with the 133rd infantry of the 34th “Red Bull” division, a unit which had taken part in some of the toughest fighting of the entire Italian campaign. Pvt. Sharkey was killed in action September 15, 1944.
He was preceded in death by his father who died November 14, 1940.
Pfc. Sharkey is survived by his mother and one brother, Virgil Sharkey of Webster City, Iowa.
The body will arrive in Webster City, Iowa Friday morning.
