Services to Be Held at Foster’s, 2 P.M.
Military services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Foster funeral home for Flight Officer Franklin D. (Dick) Brock, son of Mrs. Lucille Brock of this city, who died in service June 13, 1944.
The Rev. John Farnham will officiate, with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Franklin D. Brock, son of William and Lucille Brock was born March 16, 1921 on a farm north of Woolstock. When he was three years old the family moved to a farm near Stanhope and he received his elementary schooling in the Stanhope schools. The family resided near Stanhope seven years then moved to Webster City where he finished his education, graduating with the class of 1939.
He enlisted in the air corps December 18, 1939 at Ft. Dodge and was sent to March Field, California for his indoctrination training, later being graduated at Lowry Field, Denver, CO. He was then sent to Moffet Field, CA, and from there to Elmendorf Field, Alaska. He was returned to the states in December, 1942 for his cadet training and received his wings October 1, 1943 at Lubbock Field, Texas.
He was united in marriage October 1, 1943 to Jacqueline Guthrie, now Mrs. Eugene Stack of Oklahoma City. Soon after his marriage he was sent to Idaho and CA for additional training and then to Langley Field, VA, for final training. On April 23, 1944 he was shipped to India and China for active duty and on June 13, 1944, while on a mission over China, his plane crashed. He first was buried near Shanghai, China, but his final resting place before being brought to the United States was Scoffield Mausoleum, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his father who died November, 1945.
He is survived by his mother and six sisters; Mrs. Ray (Arlene) Hill of Stratford; Mrs. Orville (Eleanor) Brandrup of Ayshire, Iowa; Mrs. Paul (Frances) Carsey of Webster City; Miss Ada Belle Brock, nurse at Methodist hospital in Peoria, ILL; Mrs. Weldon (Wilma) Parrish of Webster City and Mrs. M.J. (Virginia) Bittner of Peoria, ILL. He is also survived by five nephews and four nieces and several aunts and uncles.
