Harbert Meinders

The grim reaper Death stepped again late into one of the homes of our town to call a husband, father and grandfather, Harbert Meinders.

Mr. Meinders was born September 4, 1849, at Ditzumerverlaat, Eastfriesland, Germany. The family came to America in August 1890 and lived in Grundy County, Iowa ever since. September 4, 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Aline Spiek. Seventeen children were born to them, of whom nine preceded their father in death. He is survived by his sorrowing wife, two daughters, Mrs. J. Beyer of Waterloo, Mrs. C.G. Chapman of Storm Lake, and six sons; Henry, Theodore, Albert, Heiko, Herman and Richard, all of this vicinity, 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Friends and neighbors share in the mourning because of his departure.

Though hard of hearing but otherwise in good health, Mr. Meinders was suddenly stricken December 28th. He received medical care immediately and it seemed at times that he might rally. These hopes proved futile however and on January 3rd, 1929 he passed away at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 29 days.

September 6, 1908 he joined on confession of faith, the First German Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 7th, 1929 with services at the house and the church, Rev. K.J. Stratemeier, Th. D., officiating. Final commitment services were held at the Grundy Center Cemetery.

Card of Thanks: We desire to extend our thanks for all thoughtful expressions of sympathy and for the kind assistance rendered us in our recent bereavement.
