Myra Jensen Died At Morrison

Myra C. Jensen, 78, retired teacher and daughter of pioneer Morrison resident, passed away at her home in Morrison Tuesday afternoon after suffering for several months from cancer of the pancreas. Her sister, Miss Marie Jensen, Waterloo teacher, had fortunately remained home from her duties because she realized the seriousness of her sister's illness. Until about April, Myra Jensen had been in her usual health and during the summer had busied herself with flowers, a small garden and the duties of her home, but had failed rapidly during the last few weeks when she was cared for by her neighbor, Mrs. Beckwith.

Born in Denmark on August 2, 1869, Miss Jensen came to America in 1880 with her parents, when the family settled permanently in Morrison. Eager for an education and a teaching career, she first was graduated from the Marshalltown high school and later attended Epworth Seminary and Drake University. Her teaching career extended over forty years, first in the schools of Marshall county, and then in such places as Dysart, Dows, Somers, Britt, Lewis and other towns. In Dysart she was for seven years the principal of the school. Retiring from teaching in 1927, she also spent a summer in Denmark and revisited relatives and the scenes of her birthplace. Since then she made her home in Morrison, keeping house, acting as correspondent for the papers and serving the community.

Always interested and active in the religious life of the community, Miss Jensen was a member of the Morrison Presbyterian church where she served as a teacher, and as superintendent of the Sunday School for 23 years until the time of her death. Her father also had served for many years as an elder in the congregation. She is survived by her only sister, Marie Jensen, a teacher in the Waterloo schools.

Funeral services are being held at two o'clock in the Morrison church this Thursday afternoon and are being conducted by Dr. Christian Haupt of Reinbeck who is now serving the Morrison church and community as minster and pastor. The community has suffered the loss of a noble and useful life in the death of Myra Christine Jensen.
