Marie Jensen Dies; Teacher 50 Years

Miss Sarah Marie Jensen died last Wednesday, May 16, in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Cancer, with which she was afflicted the past year, was the cause of her death. She was 75 years old.

The body was taken to the Ferree Funeral Chapel in Grundy Center, where it remained until one o'clock on Saturday. Services were held at the Presbyterian church in Morrison beginning at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. The services were conducted by Dr. H. E. Dierenfield, pastor of First Presbyterian church at Waterloo. Burial was in the Morrison cemetery.

Was Teacher 50 Years
After attending public schools, Miss Jensen attended the State Teachers college at Cedar Falls and prepared for a long and successful teaching career. Until five years ago, she taught for 29 years as a primary teacher in the Lincoln School in Waterloo. She also taught in the rural schools of Grundy county, Thompson, Storm Lake, and other communities. With her tact and ability as a teacher to handle large primary classes, Miss Jensen was the teacher of more than a thousand children who were influenced by her character and personality.

As a member of the Morrison Presbyterian church, Miss Jensen served in the Sunday School and as church organist. Her name is remembered as one of the great and good teachers of Iowa.

Miss Jensen is the last of her family and leaves no known relatives. Her sister Myra Jensen, also a teacher for many years, passed away eight years ago. The two sisters lived in a modest home in Morrison, a home made beautiful with flowers, books, antiques, hand-painted china and other interesting features. Because of her long teaching experience, Miss Jensen had a wide acquaintance and many friends in the communities where she lived and taught.

Miss Jensen was born April 19, 1881, in Morrison. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Jensen, early settlers in the town of Morrison, where Mr. Jensen became the first postmaster of the village.
