Death of Mrs. Jensen

Mrs. Karen Jensen died at her home in Morrison. She had been sick for some time with cancer of the stomach though she was confined to her bed for only a day. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Rederus were held at Morrison Sunday afternoon and there was a very large attendance.

Mrs. Jensen had for many years been a resident of Morrison. She was in her 71st year. She is survived by two daughters, Mrya and Marie, the latter being Morrison's postmistress.

Obituary of Mrs. Rasmus Jensen

Karen Kirstine Henningsen was born on the island of Moen, Denmark, January 24, 1840, and died at her home in Morrison, Iowa, September 15, 1911, at nine o'clock p.m., aged 71 years, 7 months and 21 days.

She was married to Rasmus Jensen on April 28, 1867, who preceded her to the better land March 31, 1909. Five children were born to them. Only two--Myra C. and Marie, are left to mourn her death.

The family came to Morrison May 11, 1880, and have since made this place their home.

Mrs. Jensen has been in failing health for the past two or three years, but her final illness was of about four months duration. She suffered intense pain; but was patient through it all and passed away as gently as she lived. Throughout her illness she spoke but little of her suffering to avoid the anxiety of those about her. Many times she preferred suffering alone rather than having the care and attention of those who cared for her.

She loved her home and lived a beautiful Christian life. She united with the Presbyterian church of Morrison in 1886 the same year in which the church building was erected. During all these years when health permitted she always attended church service and did not miss a single communion service until April of the present year, and this absence was due to her failing health. In the ladies aid society she was a faithful worker.

She will be greatly missed by those who knew her, for to know her was to love her; but what is loss to us is gain to her.

The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church, Rev. Rederus of Janesville preached the sermon and was assisted by Dr. Evans of Cedar Rapids.

The music was furnished by a mixed quartette from Reinbeck, viz, E. P. Bieber, A. H. Moeller, Mabel Black and Miss Newcomb. Edith Shoemaker was their accompanist.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful. One large piece, a lyre, given by the citizens of Morrison and vicinity deserves special mention. Interment was in the family lot in the Morrison cemetery.

Those from a distance who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. James Black, Mrs. J. W. Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Shurtleff, Mrs. Wm. Murray, Mrs. J. F. Richmond and Mrs. D. E. Munn all from Grundy Center, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gardiner of Reinbeck, Mrs. M. V. Moniger of Marshalltown and Rev. and Mrs. Rederus of Janesville.

We desire through these columns to express our heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and death of our dear mother. And for the excellent music rendered and the beautiful floral offering we are also truly grateful.
