John W. Dew Dies In Hospital

John W. Dew, a long time resident of Grundy county, died in the Grundy Memorial hospital last Wednesday night. Death followed cerebral convulsions with which he was stricken on Jan. 18 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Bryant, near Cedar Falls. He was brought to the hospital at Grundy Center shortly after he was stricken.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the First Presbyterian church, Grundy Center. The service, jointly conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Gerben Van Putten, and by Dr. H. E. Dierenfield, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Waterloo. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Washington cemetery south of Morrison.

Pallbearers were Robert Morrison, Henry Barfels, Henry Luiken, Floyd Marken, Wayne Morrison and Orlen Stout.

Was Born in Canada
Mr. Dew was born in Ontario, Canada, Feb. 26th, 1869. He was a son of William and Ann Dew. At the age of 12 he came to Grundy county with his parents. They moved on a farm in Washington township near Morrison. On April 3rd, 1894, John Dew and Lillie Buffington were married. They started life together on a farm near Morrison. They farmed until January, 1919, when they moved to Morrison. The wife died 11 years ago. He continued to live at Morrison until two years ago when he moved to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Bryant near Cedar Falls.

Surviving are two sons, Glenn, Grundy Center, Wayne, Gladbrook. Mrs. Harold Bryant is the only daughter. There are two grandsons and five great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Martha Hunter, lives at Exeter, Canada.

Out of town people at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boyenga and son Roger, Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson, Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harrison, Mrs. Henry Swartz, of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Asa Deeming, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kiefer, Mr. and Mrs. James Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Knapp, all of Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sage, Waterloo; Mrs. Wesley Koch, of Hudson; Donald Buffington, Hudson; Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Ayers, Reinbeck; Mrs. Milford Stewart, Cedar Falls; Henry Bryant and son Dennis, Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Gale, Hansell.

Lunch was served in the Morrison Presbyterian church parlors to the friends after the services, by the Ladies' Aid.
