Mrs. John W. Dew Dies Sunday In Hospital

Mrs. John W. Dew, who spent nearly all of her lifetime in Grundy county, died at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown early Sunday morning. She was afflicted with cancer of the lung. She had been sick and declining gradually since last April. She was 71 years old.

Mrs. Dew's maiden name was Lillie Alice Buffington. She was born in Maryland on April 3, 1870. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Buffington. The family moved from Maryland to Illinois where they remained a short time, and came from there to Grundy county in 1882.

Two years later, in 1894, Alice Buffington was married to John W. Dew. The couple began housekeeping on a farm in Washington township where they resided until about six years ago, when they moved to Morrison.

Surviving are the husband, two sons and one daughter. The sons are Glenn Dew, living near Dike, and Wayne Dew, residing near Lincoln. The daughter is Mrs. Harold Bryant, living four miles north of Morrison.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Morrison Tuesday afternoon. The services were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Norman Frerking. Burial was in the cemetery south of Morrison.

Funeral Services Tuesday For Mrs. Dew

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church for Mrs. John W. Dew, who passed away Sunday morning at the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown where she had been a patient since Tuesday.

Lillie Alice Buffington was born on April 3, 1870 in Maryland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Buffington. She moved with her parents to Illinois and later moved to Morison in 1872.

On April 3rd, 1894, she was married to John W. Dew. She is survived by her husband and three children, Glenn R. Dew, of Dike; Wayne Dew and Mrs. Harold Bryant of Morrison; and three grandsons, LeRoy, Robert and Kenneth Dew; a sister, Mrs. Emma Drenner of Freeport, Ill., and a brother, Cab Buffington of Morrison.

Rev. Norman Frerking had charge of the services. The committee caring for flowers was Mrs. James Miller, Mrs. Wm. Hanisch and Mrs. Herman Stock.

Bearers were George Stumbaugh, Clem Shimer, Robert Morrison, Robert Miller, Manne Bakker and Herman R. Stock.

Burial was in the Washington township cemetery, one half mile south of town. Among those present for the funeral from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holm of Britt, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson, and Mrs. Henry Swartz of Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wright, and George Dew of Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Buffington, Mrs. Wesley Koch, Mr. and Mrs. William Dew, Miss Rose Linder of Hudson; and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Parsons and daughter of Grinnell.
