Mrs. James Mooty Dies Last Friday

Mrs. James Mooty died at 6:20 last Sunday evening at her home in Grundy Center. Had she lived until next July, she would have been 93 years old. Death was due to advanced age and complications. She was bedfast for several weeks preceding her death. Her companion and helper in her home for several years was Anna Noordman, whose kindly and considerate care and treatment of their mother will ever be appreciated by Mrs. Mooty's children.

Mrs. Mooty's maiden name was Margaret Miller. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller. She was born in County Antrim in Ireland, July 16, 1861. At the age of two years she came to America with her parents. The family came to Davenport. Mrs. Mooty spent her early ears in Scott county. Later the family moved to a farm in Lincoln township, Grundy county.

On March 15, 1887, she was married to James Mooty. Following their marriage they lived for a number of years on a Lincoln township farm and a few years later they purchased a farm in Washington township southeast of Grundy Center, where they resided for 30 years. The past thirty years, Mrs. Mooty made her home in Grundy Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Mooty celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary March 15, 1937. Mr. Mooty died the year following the observance of the 50th anniversary. Mrs. Mooty continued to make her home in the house which she and her husband purchased when they came to Grundy Center during the remainder of her lifetime.

She was a longtime member of the Morrison Presbyterian church, later transferring her membership to the First Presbyterian church in Grundy Center. She attended church services regularly as long as her health permitted.

Was Member of Large Family
Mrs. Mooty was a member of a large family, six sisters and one brother. There are three surviving sisters. They are Mrs. M. L. Hostetter, Mrs. W. L. Miller, of Grundy Center who spend the winters in Homestead, Florida, and Mrs. Thomas Mooty, Reinbeck.

Other surviving members of her immediate family are three sons, John, Worthington, Minn., Charles and Wesley, Grundy Center; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 27 nieces and nephews. One son, Edison, preceded her in death in 1948.

Funeral Services Wednesday
Funeral services were held in First Presbyterian church in Grundy Center Wednesday afternoon. Burial was by the side of her husband in the Morrison cemetery. Rev. Gerben Van Putten officiated at the services.

The pallbearers were Frank Kopsa, Elmer Geiter, Henry Appel, Lyle Hawn, Arthur Robins and Clarence Brown.
