Obituary of Mrs. James Miller

At three o'clock Wednesday morning, June 30, 1909, the spirit of Hattie M. Miller took its flight to that world where the sun never sets, where sufferings are o'er, where no tears are shed, where all is joy and happiness and there is only peace and God reigns. That death loves a shining mark, is again verified; for truly did Hattie have all the virtues one could look for, in a woman of 33 years.

Deeply spiritual and upright in character, she abhorred anything of falsity or impurity, and had a great influence for good upon those who knew her. Many years of usefulness seemed to be before her in this life, but God said, "It is Enough". She has gone to join the hosts of the redeemed. Her influence still lives in our minds and hearts and we shall yet see her, if we find ourselves prepared as she was when our final summons comes.

Hattie Murray Hyland was born Dec. 13, 1875, at Davenport, Iowa, and died June 30, 1909 of heart trouble at her home near Morrison, Iowa. She was married June 24, 1896 to James Miller and to this union was born five children, John Harold, age 12, Cora May, age 10, James Ivan, age 7, Friend Hyland, age 6 and William Lyle, age 3. She leaves besides her sorrowing husband and family, six sisters, two brothers, two uncles, Mr. Miller's aged parents and sisters and other relatives to mourn her loss. She united with the Presbyterian church of Morrison shortly after coming to Grundy county.

At 2 o'clock p.m., July 2nd, relatives and friends gathered at her home to pay the last tribute of respect to one they loved. The services were conducted by Rev. H. B. Dye, assisted by Rev. Baker, after which she was laid to rest in the Morrison cemetery. The Reinbeck male quartette furnished appropriate music and the floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, showing the esteem in which she was held by all who knew her.

The following relatives and friends were present from a distance: Will Hyland, Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Ida Ozias, Mrs. Mae Gaghen, Esther and Susie Hyland, James Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Copley, Richard Copley, Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Kober, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Mardis, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Murray, Grinnell, Mrs. J. H. Long, Quinter, Kas., William Copley, Gilman, Mr. and Miss Carson, Marshalltown, her brothers and sisters here, all present except one, John J. Hyland of Philadelphia. Her mother died less than a year ago and her father three years ago at Davenport, Iowa. It has been a severe blow to Mr. Miller, father, mother and family.

Card of Thanks
We remember with sincere gratitude the unstinted aid and kindness received from our numerous friends and acquaintance including the choir and donors of flowers, who during our recent bereavement rendered such comforting assistance. We take this opportunity of conveying to them our heartfelt appreciation.
Mr. James Miller and Family
