Mrs. Sarah Hostetter Died at Home Sunday
Mrs. Sarah Hostetter died at her home in Grundy Center, Sunday from old age and complications. She would have been 84 years old the coming August.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Coffman funeral home. Burial was in the cemetery at Morrison. Rev. Virgil Smith officiated at the service.
The following obituary was read by the pastor:
Sarah Elizabeth Ebert was born at Louisville, Pa., Aug. 18, 1860, where she received her education and grew to young womanhood. In her early youth she united with the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Abram Hostetter Sept. 17, 1878, at Blain, Pa., where they resided until moving to Grundy county in 1908. They lived on a farm until 1920 when they retired and moved to this city where she has since resided. Her husband died Mar. 8, 1922.Mrs. Hostetter was the mother of ten children, four of whom survive. They are William and Ralph of Grundy Center, John and Mrs. Nellie Seymour of Chicago. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hostetter was a devoted wife and mother, was dearly beloved by all who knew her. She was a sincere Christian woman who never tired of doing good for others. The memory of her will long be cherished by her acquaintances.
Relatives from out of the county who were here for the funeral were: John Hostetter and Mrs. Nellie Seymour of Chicago; Miss Helen Hostetter, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ruth Graesing, Vinton; Mrs. Lois McDaniel, Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Stumm and family of Cedar Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hostetter and son of Waterloo.
