Emery W. Bumsted, 85

Memorial services were held Thursday at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Marshalltown for Emery W. Bumsted, age 85 of Eldora, who died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Burial was at the Benson Cemetery near Whitten. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice.

He was born Nov. 30, 1915 in Gladbrook, son of Edward H. and Ada (Kuns) Bumsted. He attended grade school in the Gladbrook area and moved to Marshalltown, graduating from the Marshalltown High School with the class of 1933.

He was united in marriage to Iris Leon Carson on March 29, 1936 in Unionville, MO. They farmed near Quarry, Union and Whitten for many years, retiring in 1985.

He is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Doug) Dickenson of Burlington and Ada (Keith) Brown of Marshalltown; a son, Larry (Connie) Bumsted of Conrad; two brothers, Alva (Virginia) Bumsted of Marshalltown and Robert (Barbara) Bumsted of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mid Humphreys of Eldora and Donna (Robert) Lust of Newton; ten grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Iris in 1998, a great-grandson, four sisters and one brother.
