Iris Bumsted, 81

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Whitten Community Church for Iris (Mrs. Emery) Bumsted, 81, of rural Eldora who died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998 at her home while in care of Iowa River Hospice.

Rev. Charles Fry officiated with burial in the Benson Cemetery, rural Whitten. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice in her name. Arrangements were by the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home, Marshalltown.

She was born Sept. 10, 1917 in Union, daughter of H. H. and Cora Smith Carson. Her family moved to Armstrong and then to Marshalltown in 1925. She received her education in Marshalltown, graduating from high school there in 1935.

On March 29, 1936 she married Emery Bumsted in Unionville, MO. They farmed in the Quarry area, later moving to the Union and Whitten areas where they resided at the time of her death.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years; two daughters, Beverly and husband Doug Dickenson of Burlington and Ada and husband Keith Brown of Marshalltown; one son, Larry Bumsted and wife Connie of rural Conrad; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Pluma Loft and Muriel Gard, a brother, Don H. Carson and two sisters and two brothers in infancy.
