Mr. Brooks was born in Cass county, Ill., near the town of Virginia, on February 20, 1850 and his life passed out at Whitten, Iowa, February 23, 1922, at the age of 72 years and 3 days.

When 14 years of age the deceased moved to Warren county, Ill., and was there married on December 4, 1870 to Sarah Baldin. In 1882 the family moved to Kansas and from Kansas to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1896, where they lived some five miles northeast of Whitten until in 1914, when they came to Whitten, which has since been their home.
