Two Bullets In Head

Henry Price, Young Farmer Living Near Whitten, Ends Life by Shooting

Made His Intentions Known

Then Goes Up Stairs and Blows His Brains Out--Dies One Hour Later, Without Regaining Consciousness--Thought He Was Not Making Enough Money

Whitten--Henry Price, a young farmer 28 years of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Price, who live on the C. M. Clark farm, five miles northeast of this place, ended his life late yesterday afternoon by shooting himself twice thru the head. After making his intentions known to his sister, he went up stairs and blew out his brains. He died an hour later, without regaining consciousness.

Price has been working as a farm hand for Lucien Ingham, a farmer of the neighborhood, and for all his relatives knew was contented and satisfied. Sunday evening he came home to visit his parents, and it was noticed that he was melancholy. He told his brothers that he wasn't making enough money, and that he believed that he would kill himself. The brothers laughed at him, and did not take the remark seriously.

Price remained at home Monday, and in the afternoon went to his sister and handed her his pocketbook, saying he was tired of life and was going to kill himself. While his sister hardly considered the threat anything but an idle fancy, she was quite alarmed, and went out of doors to find her other brothers. Young Price went immediately up stairs, and before any one could reach him had shot himself twice with a revolver thru the head.

The young man is survived by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be held from the Price home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in the Benson cemetery.

The Felix Suicide

Henry Price, a farm hand, living in Felix township, committed suicide Monday by shooting himself in the head with a cheap 41 calibre revolver. No motive is assigned for the deed except insanity. He phoned to his brother and also informed his mother and sister that he was about to suicide. He fired one shot which did not take effect and then went up stairs and finished the job. In his trunk was found a lot of cheap detective stories. His mother is keeping house for a farmer on the Clark farm, the father and mother having separated. The funeral was held Wednesday.

Suicide In Felix Township

Henry Price Shoots Himself Twice and Dies Three Hours Later

Despondency Was the Cause of the Suicide

Henry Price shot himself twice at the home of Joe Nablo in Felix township Monday noon and died from his wounds three hours after. Despondency was the cause for the suicide. The deed had been premeditated as notes were found in his trunk in which he stated that he had become tired of life and wished to make an end of it. He is survived by a father, mother, one brother and one sister. He and his mother had been making their home with Joe Nablo on the C. N. Clark farm five miles northwest of Conrad. They came there about a year ago. He had threatened suicide many times but his mother had reproved him for it and tried to show him the folly of such a course. He repeated his threat Monday noon while his mother and sister were with him and took up a 44 calibre revolver to put his threat into effect. The women ran screaming from the house for help and while they were in the yard heard the shots fired. It is believed that the first shot was fired downstairs and that when this did not prove fatal the young man ran upstairs and discharged the last shot in his room. Here he was found with two ugly wounds on the right side of his head. He lost consciousness after the last shot was fired.

A coroners' jury was empaneled and the verdict was that the deceased came to his death by two gun shot wounds inflicted by his own hands.

The funeral services were held at Whitten at ten o'clock Wednesday.

The deceased was about twenty-eight years old. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Price. For many years he lived with his parents near Whitten. In late years he and his mother became separated and his father is now making his home in Marshalltown.
