Richard Claassen, 62

Richard Claassen of Houston, TX, formerly of Wellsburg, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the Bayou City Medical Center in Houston of respiratory arrest.

Richard was born on October 6, 1936, in Iowa Falls, the son of Richard and Lucille Hamilton Claassen. He lived at the Brown Ranch in Austin, TX for most of his life. He recently moved to the Thomas Care Center in Houston.

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Claassen of Wellsburg; three sisters, Joan Wallick and husband Robert of Big Horn, WY, Marilyn Roberts and husband Harold of Chapel Hill, NC, and Barbara Claassen, also of Chapel Hill.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Claassen, in 1981.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Covenant Church in Wellsburg with burial following in the Hazel Green Cemetery, rural Ackley. Pallbearers were Jay Hamilton, Gary Warman, Craig Claassen, Jerry Staley, Jim Staley and Lurlin Hoelscher.

A memorial fund has been established. Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
