Minnie Dilly Services Held
Minnie Dilly, of Maple Manor Nursing Home, Aplington, passed away at Maple Manor on Monday, September 26. She reached the age of 96 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, in the First Presbyterian Church, Aplington, with Rev. Jim Blair officiating. Interment was in Hampton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ivan Harken, Ervin Diekman, Vernon Stockdale, and Erv Mellema.
Minnie was born the daughter of John and Dorcas Huisman Tjaden on June 17, 1898, in Wellsburg. She attended school in Wellsburg.
On July 18, 1919, she married Shirley Lyman Dilly in Waterloo. The couple lived in Wellsburg until 1935, then moved to Aplington. Minnie helped organize the Aplington Library and her number was 7. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington and a 72 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley on December 21, 1978; 2 sons, Donald Dilly, a Navy Pilot, in 1941, and Kenneth Dilly on September 1, 1976; her parents; 2 brothers; and 4 sisters.
Minnie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Genevieve (Mrs. Ray) Ziegler of Hampton; 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Margaret and Dave Sears of Burnsville, Minnesota, Donna and Rick Smith of Bastrop, Texas, and Kevin and Roxanne Dilly of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; 5 great-grandchildren, Stacy and Matt Sears, Burnsville, Minnesota, and James, Lee, Rick and Neal Smith, Bastrop, Texas.
Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of the arrangements.
