Grundy Man Dies at Fostoria

Okke Tjaden, father of John Tjaden, the Wellsburg mayor's father, died at the home of one of his sons at Fostoria, Iowa, last Thursday. The remains were sent to the deceased's former home in Ocheyedan where interment was made Sunday. Mr. Tjaden's wife died about a year ago and since that time he fell away gradually.

Mr. Tjaden was eighty-five years old last October. He was born in Emden, Germany, and came to this country in 1865. He located in Ogle county, Illinois, where he was married. He was a miller by trade and he followed that occupation for some thirty-five or forty-years. Mr. Tjaden came to Iowa thirty-nine years ago. He lived for a short time at Faulkner, then moved to Alden and Hardin City and from the latter place he came to Grundy county. He took charge of the mill at Holland and he remained at this post for many years. He left this county about eighteen years ago and until up to the time of his wife's death he resided at Ocheyedan.

Mr. Tjaden was the father of twelve children. Eleven of them are living. The children are Peter, of Wolverton, Minn., John of Wellsburg, Mrs. Harm Lutterman of Canada, Mrs. George Huisman of Fostoria, Herman who has been living at home, Mell of Ocheyedan, Mrs. John Fawcett of Ocheyedan, Fred of Fostoria, Dick of Ocheyedan and George and Mrs. Julius Daunman of Fostoria.
