Melvin T. Stokke
Forest City--Melvin T. Stokke, 59, died Sunday at Forest City Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church here. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Olson Funeral Home in charge.
Born July 1, 1907, at Hettinger, N.D., he was the son of Louis and Martha Johnson Stokke. The family moved to Fertile when he was an infant.
He was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and did graduate work at Drake University and the University of Wyoming. He was bandmaster and music teacher in Thompson, Radcliffe, Graettinger, Castana, Fairbank and Corwith, and the superintendent of schools in Seneca and Wellsburg.
In 1953 he came to Forest City where he has been a piano technician. He was a member of the International Technicians Association 33 years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Halvorson; a daughter, Mrs. Dwight (Jan) Winkelman, Buffalo Center; a son, David Stokke, Forest City; two granddaughters; a half-sister, Clara Olson, Hettinger; two brothers, Leo, Fertile, Sam, Ames; two sisters, Mrs. John (Annie) Randall, Glenville, Minn., Mrs. Frank (Hilda) Hamson, Bricelyn, Minn.
