Dr. H. H. Hanna Dies; Resident Here Since 1904
Formerly at Goldfield, Iowa; Son of Benton County Pioneers
Dr. H. H. Hanna, 1200 West Third street, for 38 years a Waterloo resident and for one year a practicing physician here, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday in Presbyterian hospital after an illness of nearly 10 months. He was 78 years old.
Pneumonia was the cause of death, altho it developed only on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Hanna had been in the hospital since July 1, 1941, because of a kidney ailment.
The son of Benton county pioneers, Harry Howard Hanna was born in Vinton Aug. 25, 1863. His parents were Alexander H. and Rosanna Hanna.
Graduate of Rush Medical
He received his undergraduate college training at Cornell college, Mt. Vernon, Ia., and was graduated from Rush Medical college, Chicago, in 1888.On April 27, 1892, he married Stella McElhinney of Waterloo here. They lived at Goldfield, Ia., for about 15 years, during 10 years of which he was a surgeon for the Rock Island railroad.
They moved to Waterloo in 1904 and one year later he retired from practice.
Mrs. Hanna survives, with one son, Percy A. Hanna, 1716 Baltimore street, and a brother, W. H. Hanna, who lives at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Miller, on Rainbow drive.
Brothers in Legislature
W. H. Hanna and another brother, John, each served two terms in the Iowa house of representatives.A third brother, James, was a district court judge for 16 years at Grand Island, Neb., and a sister, Belle Hanna, was a Cornell college instructor for 18 years.
Dr. Hanna was a member of First Congregational church.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Kearns Garden chapel by Rev. Charles F. Jacobs, pastor of First Congregational church.
Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
