Dr. Graham, 91, Died Sunday

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, at 1:30 p.m. from the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg for Dr. Charles Graham, 91, who died Sunday at the Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora.

Rev. Kasjen Tebben officiated with Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones as vocalists. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was organist. Honorary casket bearers are Henry Geerdes, Robert Frerichs, Dr. B. J. Gavin and Richard Claassen. Casket bearers were Thomas Claassen, Elwood Doyen, Elmer Fritzel, Herman Sietsema, Warren Anderson and Delmar Benning.

Interment was in the Eldora Cemetery with the Doyen Funeral Home of Wellsburg handling arrangements.

Charles Coleman Graham was born March 3, 1885, on a farm in Tama county near Elberon. He was the son of Charles and Evelyn Boggus Graham. He received his education in country schools and at the high school at Belle Plaine. He homesteaded on the Deadwood Trail near Haukan, S.D. in 1907. He married Bertha M. Sullivan of Tama on Feb. 25, 1911, at Kirksville, Mo.

He attended McKilly's Veterinary College in Chicago and graduated in 1914. After graduating he came with his wife to Wellsburg, where he was the community's first veterinarian. He retired from practice at the age of 72 and continued to reside at Wellsburg until three months ago when he entered Valley View Nursing Center.

He was active in conservation work, serving on the Grundy County Conservation Board, was a member of the Isaac Walton League and the Pine Lake Wildlife Club. He was active in civic affairs in Wellsburg, serving as mayor, justice of the peace and volunteer fireman.

He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church at Wellsburg and was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and one son in infancy.

Survivors include his wife of Wellsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Marcella) Creps of Eldora; two grandchildren, Charles Creps of Eldora and Mrs. Bruce (Sherry) Marlowe of Clinton and one sister, Mrs. Nelle Kiser of Billings, Mont.
