Funeral Services Held for George Doyen, Former Resident

The following article concerning the late George Doyen was taken from the Pipestone County Star, of Pipestone, Minn.:

The death of George H. Doyen occurred Wednesday morning, August 25, at his home, 523 2nd Ave. SE, following a several months' illness with cancer of the throat.

Funeral services were held at Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Lutheran church in this city. Rev. H. O. Svare conducted the services and the burial was in the Holland cemetery.

George H. Doyen was born on October 13, 1886, at Wellsburg, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In 1911 he and his sister, Margaret Doyen, moved to Minneapolis, where they made their home until 1915. On January 13, 1915 he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Neessen at Alden, Iowa. The couple made their home in Minneapolis for a few months, then moved to Holland, Minn., where they operated a general store for several years.

Thirteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Doyen and family, and his sister, Miss Margaret Doyen, moved to Pipestone, and have since made their home there. Two years ago Mr. Doyen bought the Eastside Grocery Store and operated it until he became ill.

He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Larson, Flandreau; two sons, Harry and Joseph, at home; and one sister, Margaret Doyen. Three children preceded their father in death, John and Heyleen and an infant daughter, and they are buried in the Holland cemetery.

Siebring of Little Rock, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, Sr., Adrian, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, Jr. and daughter, Reading, Minn.; Mrs. Cornelia Hansen, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mr. Frank Sullivan, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Gladys Bucholtz, Colman, South Dakota; Miss Etha Jansen, Hastings, Neb.; Mr. Jurgen Geerdes, Hastings, Neb.; Mrs. Alvin Miller, Glenco, Minn.; Thomas Doyen, Camp Barkeley, Texas.

The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful.
