Thelma Charlotte Harriett Groninga, 74, of Ackley, passed away at her home on September 3, 1991. Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 6, at West Friesland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lee Mashburn officiating. Stella Neymeyer was organist and vocalist was Lee Neymeyer. Ushers were Eugene Harken and Lawrence Hartema. Serving as casketbearers were Steve Burroughs, Brian Groninga, Tim Groninga, Chris Neessen, Mike Neessen and Jim Richtsmeier. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Neessen Groninga was born August 4, 1917 at Wellsburg, the daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Schrage Neessen. She attended the Sinclair and Parkersburg schools. On February 26, 1938 she was married to Vernon Cornelius Groninga at the Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. Mrs. Groninga was a member of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Steve Groninga of Ackley; a daughter, Sheryl Flater of Evergreen, Colorado; a sister, Marg Truax of Dallas, Oregon; three brothers, Tom Neessen of Ackley, Floyd Neessen of Waterloo and Heiko Neessen of Lebanon, Oregon; and two granddaughters, Lori Groninga and Amy Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Terrill; and a brother, Merlin Neessen.
