Brothers-In-Law Died Same Night at Grundy

The two brothers-in-law were Sam L. Claassen and John Neessen. Claassen died at the Grundy hospital about 9 o'clock Monday night. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been a patient in the hospital 3 weeks. He was 85 years old.

John Neessen died at his home in one of the Graves Apartments in Grundy Center at 4 o'clock on Tuesday morning. Death was due to a sudden heart attack. He had been afflicted with a heart condition for some time.

Both of these men were born in Grundy county and lived here during most of their active lives. Sam Claassen married a sister of John Neessen. Both lived on Grundy farms for some time and both spent their declining year in Grundy Center.

The body of both of these men are at the Ferree funeral home in Grundy Center where funeral arrangements were made. Services for Sam Claassen will be held in the funeral home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon and later at Bethany Presbyterian church in Grundy Center. Rev. Buschman will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery. Services for John Neessen will be at the funeral home at 1:30 on Friday and later at the American Lutheran church in Grundy Center. The service will be conducted by Rev. E. A. Biedermann. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.

John Neessen

John Neessen was born on a farm in Colfax township, July 7, 1885. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Neessen. He attended school in Colfax township and grew up there. On Dec. 30, 1908, John Neessen and Tracha E. Jaspers were married. The first year of their married life was on a farm in Pleasant Valley township. The next year they moved to Holland, where John was engaged in the grain elevator business until 1931, after which they moved to Parkersburg where they resided 24 years. The last 7 years John was retired and he and his wife lived in Grundy Center.

Surviving are the wife, one daughter, Ivadeen, Mrs. Roy Kopecky, Omaha. There are three surviving sons: Thomas J., DeWitt, Iowa; James T., Waterloo; and Marvin A., Lakewood, Calif. There are 7 surviving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Other surviving relatives are 2 brothers, Heiko, Grundy Center, and Thomas L., Waterloo. There are four surviving sisters. They are Dena, Mrs. Ontje Knock, of Grundy Center; Martha, Mrs. Sam Claassen, Grundy Center; Alice, Mrs. Claas Claassen, Grundy Center; and Minnie, Mrs. Ray Murphy, Waterloo.
