Brothers-In-Law Died Same Night at Grundy

The two brothers-in-law were Sam L. Claassen and John Neessen. Claassen died at the Grundy hospital about 9 o'clock Monday night. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been a patient in the hospital 3 weeks. He was 85 years old.

John Neessen died at his home in one of the Graves Apartments in Grundy Center at 4 o'clock on Tuesday morning. Death was due to a sudden heart attack. He had been afflicted with a heart condition for some time.

Both of these men were born in Grundy county and lived here during most of their active lives. Sam Claassen married a sister of John Neessen. Both lived on Grundy farms for some time and both spent their declining year in Grundy Center.

The body of both of these men are at the Ferree funeral home in Grundy Center where funeral arrangements were made. Services for Sam Claassen will be held in the funeral home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon and later at Bethany Presbyterian church in Grundy Center. Rev. Buschman will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery. Services for John Neessen will be at the funeral home at 1:30 on Friday and later at the American Lutheran church in Grundy Center. The service will be conducted by Rev. E. A. Biedermann. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Sam L. Claassen

Mr. Claassen was born on a Colfax township farm September 24, 1876. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Luppe Claassen. He attended rural school in Colfax township. He and Martha Neessen were married March 1, 1905, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Neessen, in Colfax township. The couple resided on a Colfax township farm until 1931 when they moved to Grundy Center.

Surviving are the widow, five sons and three daughters. The sons are Lloyd and Alvin Claassen, Waterloo, Thomas of Grundy Center, and Wayne from Waterloo.

The daughters are Helen Claassen, Grundy Center; Edna, Mrs. Ted Bergman, New Hartford; Arvilla, Mrs. Bob Berry, West Covina, California. There are 15 grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are one sister, Mrs. Freerksen of Eldora. One half-sister, Mrs. Dick Rewerts, Allison.
