Florence Heetland

Florence Heetland was born October 19, 1894 near Wellsburg, the daughter of John and Gertie Ruter Geerdes. She married Paul Heetland on February 16, 1915. They farmed south of Ackley until Paul died December 9, 1959. She remained on the farm until March 3, 1964, when she moved to Ackley. She had been a resident of Maple Manor Nursing Home since September 16, 1983. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Heetland passed away Sunday, November 27, 1988 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington.

Survivors include four sons, Elmer of Iowa Falls, Kenneth, Virgil and Gordon, all of Ackley; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Harms of Wellsburg and Mrs. Herman (Gladys) Bakker of Holland; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; a brother, Gratus Geerdes, a sister, Mrs. Grace Bakker; sisters-in-law Anna Geerdes of Steamboat Rock and Edna Freese and Anna Kies, both of Ackley.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons-in-law, one son, her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Joyce Blythe was organist and soloist was Lynette Heetland. Other singers were Lynn, Lynette, Gary and Kendall Heetland. Ushers were Walter Harms and Donald Arends. Flower ladies were Ordie Jutting and Evelyn Freeseman. Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Meints, Darrel Heetland, Rodney Heetland, Dale Bakker, Kendall Heetland and Grant Heetland. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Meints, Floyd Heetland, Marvin Bakker, Lynn Heetland and Gary Heetland. Interment was in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
