Ordie Geerdes

Ordie Geerdes, age 84, of Wellsburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 1988 at the Maple Manor Nursing Home, Aplington, where she had been a resident since October, 1986. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed Church of rural Wellsburg at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 1988. The Rev. Bruce Baillie of the First Presbyterian Church, Steamboat Rock was the officiating clergyman. Alfred Eiten sang accompanied by Mrs. Jack Bakker, who also played the Prelude and the Postlude on the organ. Casket Bearers were Virgil Heetland, Kenneth Heetland, Glen Bakker, Jonas Geerdes, Robert Geerdes and James Geerdes. Ushers were Edward Nederhoff and Harvey Eiten. Flower ladies were Mrs. Donald Purvis and Mrs. Jake Paterni.

Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.

Ordie Geerdes was born on March 26, 1904 near Wellsburg, to John and Gertie Ruter Geerdes. She never married. Ordie received her education in the Shiloh Township rural schools. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.

She is survived by two sisters Mrs. Florence Heetland of Aplington, and Mrs. Grace Bakker of Wellsburg, one brother Gratus Geerdes of Wellsburg, a sister-in-law Mrs. Anna Geerdes of Steamboat Rock, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Mrs. Gertie Heikens and Mrs. Clara Geerdes, two brothers Ben J. and George Geerdes, and two brothers who died in infancy.
