Grant Twp. Man Dies Of Accident Injuries

C. V. Murphys car Turned Over on Wednesday Night

Young Man Died At Waterloo Saturday

Cornelius V. Murphy died at St. Francis hospital in Waterloo last Saturday evening from the effects of injuries he received in an automobile accident the Wednesday night before.

Cornelius Murphy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Murphy, who live three miles south of Dike, Wednesday evening shortly after dusk, had left for Dike in the family's small car to drive to the home of his aunt near by for some letters. When about a mile away from his home the car skidded and ran off a grade and turned over. Three parties from Waterloo who were on their way home from Berlin found the young man lying unconscious on one side of the road and his car in a ditch on the opposite side. When he was picked up he revived sufficiently to tell the men where he lived and they took him to his home. It developed that he received internal injuries. He was attended by local physicians but did not make satisfactory improvement and Saturday he was taken to Waterloo and placed in St. Francis hospital. An examination there showed an operation necessary. The operation was performed and the young man died shortly after.

The remains were taken to the home south of Dike Sunday morning. Funeral services were held in the Catholic church in Grant township Tuesday forenoon and interment was made there.

Cornelius Murphy was 25 years old. He was born and raised in Grant township and he was held in high regard by all who knew him. The surviving relatives are a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Murphy, two brothers, John and William and by one sister, Rachel.

A complete obituary will be given in next week's issue of the Democrat.
