Mrs. Mary Gange Dies Waterloo Hospital Tuesday
Funeral Services for 79 Years Old Woman Are Held Today;
Taken to Waterloo Monday Evening
Mrs. Mary Gange, 79, widow of the late John Gange, civil war veteran, and who was taken to the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Monday evening died there Tuesday, April 9, at 6:30 pm after an illness of three months. She had been in failing health for 4 years, suffering a severe illness at that time and gradually failing since.
The funeral service was conducted this Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, April 11 from the Robinson funeral home with Rev. R. Cary Hufstader officiating and burial was made in the Reinbeck cemetery.
Mrs. Gange, was born Mary Elizabeth Musser on Nov. 7, 1860, at Wheeling, West Virginia, the daughter of Tobias and Julia Musser and came to a farm near Hudson with her parents when she was a small girl growing to womanhood in that vicinity and attending school in the Orange Township school near Hudson.
Deceased was united in marriage to Dan Saylor in Orange township, Black Hawk county in 1887, and five children were born to this union, two of whom are still living: Mrs. W. H. Gange, with whom she had been living and Mrs. Lou Carlisle of Tofield, Alberta, Canada. Mr. Saylor passed away in 1897.
She was again married to John Gange, Dysart farmer in September, 1898, and the couple moved to Reinbeck to the house where she lived when she died to this union one child was born, Ray Gange, 40 of Waterloo. Mr. passing away in October, 1927.
Mrs. Gange was a member of the Congregational Church of Reinbeck and also a charter member of the Order of Eastern Stars and also bore the distinction of being the last surviving Civil War widow residing in this part of the county.
