Sad Accident

One of the most terrible and sad accidents resulting in the death of a little girl occurred in our city last Friday about noon. Mr. J. H. Sperry had been burning rubbage in his garden. He went in to his dinner thinking the fire was entirely out. His little child, a five year old girl went out, fanned up the fire, gathered up as much more straw and trash as they could find and got up a big blaze and in some way the little girls clothing caught fire and before the little boy could give the alarm her clothing was entirely in flame. Miss Sperry ran out of the house and did all she could to extinguish the flames but before she could accomplish it, the child was so badly burned, that about ten o'clock death relieved her sufferings. Mrs. Sperry was out in Nebraska visiting and the aunt was keeping house. A telegram was sent to her and she arrived home Sunday morning only to be greeted by the sad intelligence of the sudden and terrible death of her little girl who only a few days before she left in perfect health. The funeral occurred from the M.E. church Sunday afternoon. It was one of the largest and most impressive funerals we ever witnessed in Grundy Center. Mr. and Mrs. Sperry have the sympathy of the entire community in this, their terrible, sad and untimely bereavement.
