Frederic Lee Delagardelle, 44

Frederic Lee Delagardelle, 44, of Dike passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile-motorcycle accident near Dike.

Fred was born on July 1, 1955, in Waterloo. He graduated from Don Bosco in 1973. On March 19, 1977, he was united in marriage to Julie Dunkelberger at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. He was employed by John Deere for 25 years. During an interim of five years between 1982-1987 he was employed by Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. Fred was a member of the Waterhawk Ski Team; ABATE of Iowa; and United Auto Workers Union of John Deere Local #838. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Dike. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, winter vacations, and working on cars. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed helping his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Julie of Dike; two daughters, Katie and Hallie both at home; his father and step-mother, Willard and Helen of Gilbertville; two brothers, Bill and his wife Diane of San Diego, CA, and Dave and his wife Mary of Ames; one step-brother, Jim Weires and his wife Sue of Ames; four sisters, Julie Kessens and husband Dave of Urbana, Karen Helm and her husband Lenny of Princeton, TX, Lisa of Waterloo, and Paula Vandenbos and her husband Scott of Gilbertville.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Mary.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 3 at 10:00 at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Pastor Roger Twito officiating. Pallbearers were Jim Bovy, Dennis Reuter, Chuck Murphy, Tim Schmitz, Mike Becker, and Larry Bakker. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel in Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
