Bud Goetzinger Services Held

Richard "Bud" Goetzinger, 77, of Dike, Iowa, passed away of cancer Friday, September 27, 1996, at Manor Care Health Center in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held October 1, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Dike with Pastor Rick Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Nielsen, Bob Nielsen, Glen Nielsen, Kenny Andersen, Mike Hatchitt and Mike Squires. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery in Dike with military rites conducted by Dike American Legion Post #471.

Bud was born December 18, 1918 at Dedham, the son of Anton and Martha (Mauer) Goetzinger. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1937, then worked as bookkeeper for the Dedham Elevator. He was also an auditor for the Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1946, then came to Dike where he was employed for the Farmers Co-Op for 25 years. Bud was united in marriage to Joyce Nielsen of rural Cedar Falls at Fredsville Lutheran church on September 8, 1948. In 1972, he moved to Buffalo Center to work as office manger and bookkeeper for Co-Op Oil and LB Transport. Bud retired and moved back to Dike in 1988 where he enjoyed his family and attending his grandchildren's activities.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two sons, Terry Goetzinger and wife Mary of Waverly and Brian Goetzinger of Garner; one daughter, Carla Ward and husband Jerry of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Chamie and Abby Goetzinger and Gabe and Matt Ward; two brothers, Delbert Goetzinger of Sugar Grove, VA and Bill Goetzinger of Council Bluffs; three sisters, Jeanette Hagedorn of Omaha, NE, Darlene Hatchitt of Des Moines and Betty Klocke of Carroll.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
