John Paige, 72

John Paige, 72, of Dike, passed away on Friday, April 2, 1999, at his home of cancer.

Memorial services were held on Monday, April 5, at the United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Inurnment followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Full military rites were conducted by the Dike American Legion Post No. 471. Pastor Rick Johnson officiated.

John was born on March 1, 1927, in Grundy Center the son of Virgil and Myrtle (Bloxham) Paige. He served his country in the U.S. Navy CB Unit during WWII.

On June 17, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marlys Creswell in the United Methodist Church in Dike. John was a Phillips Oil Jobber for 35 years and he owned and operated Phillips 66 and a Robo Car Wash in Dike. In his retirement years he enjoyed working for Midwest Turkey Hatchery and Kruger Seeds. He loved fishing and attending his children's and grandchildren's activities.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and he sang in the choir for many years. John served as a volunteer fireman in Dike, was a member of the Dike American Legion Post No. 471 for 54 years and Honor Lodge No. 464 A.F. and A.M. in Dike.

Survivors include his wife Marlys of Dike; two daughters, Kathi Paige of Grundy Center and Lori Carlson and husband Michael of Waverly; son, Jim Paige and wife Diane of Urbandale; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Lawrence and Ruth Paige of Reinbeck, Charles and Rosella Paige of Mesa, AZ, Vernon and Beverly Paige of Askov, MN, C. E. (Dane) and Shirley Paige of Waterloo, and Wayne and Marlene Paige of Dike; and one sister-in-law, Carolyn Paige of Makanda, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Paige.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
