Marlys J. Paige, 76

Marlys J. Paige, 76, of Dike, died June 19 at the Waverly Health Center after a courageous battle with cancer, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Following cremation, memorial services were June 22 at the United Methodist Church in Dike. Inurnment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A memorial fund has been established.

Marlys was born September 14, 1927, in Reinbeck, the daughter of Roy and Flossie (Smith) Creswell. Marlys graduated from Dike High School and went on to attend and graduate from the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On June 17, 1951, Marlys was united in marriage to John Paige at the United Methodist Church in Dike. After their marriage, they made their home in Dike. Marlys was a teacher at Dike High School, teaching both vocal music and business. In 1959, Marlys left teaching to become a full-time mother and part-time bookkeeper for her husband's business, Dike Oil Company. Marlys taught private piano lessons for 30 years. In 1986, Marlys started her own Mary Kay business. On April 2, 1999, Marlys' husband John died.

Marlys was a 62 year member of the United Methodist Church in Dike, playing the organ for 60 years, and was the choir director for 30 years. She also played the organ for the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center for 17 years. Marlys was also a member of two musical associations NAMTA and MTNA.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathi Paige of Grundy Center and Lori Carlson and her husband Michael of Waverly; one son, Jim Paige and his wife Diane of Adel; seven grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, Charles Paige and his wife Rosella of Dike, Vernie Paige and his wife Bev of Askov, MN, Dane Paige and his wife Shirley of Waterloo, and Wayne Paige and his wife Marlene of Dike; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Paige of Reinbeck and Carolyn Paige of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1999; her parents; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Paige and Donald Paige.
