Sibyl M. Black, 82

Sibyl M. Black, 82, of Dike, died February 13 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were February 18 at Dike United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A memorial fund has been established.

Sibyl was born September 7, 1919 in Reinbeck, the daughter of Hugh and Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth (Collins) Miller. When Sibyl was three years old, she and her family moved to a farm at Dike. She attended and received her diploma from Dike Consolidated School in 1938. On June 20, 1944, Sibyl was united in marriage to John "Jack" M. H. Black, at the home of her parents. She spent her entire life as a wife, mother and friend. She loved to garden, especially flower gardening, where raising gladiolus was her specialty. Sibyl took great pride in baking, especially angel food cakes from scratch. She also enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John "Jack" of the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center; two sons, Hugh A. "Sandy" Black and his wife Lynn of Grand Prairie, TX, and John C. Black and his wife Karen of Peoria, AZ; one daughter, Sarah "Sally" K. Moore and her husband Tom of Rushford, MN; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, John A. Miller of Glendale, CA; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Miller of Waterloo and Beverly Miller of Longwood, FL; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, George; and two brothers, Lyman and Melvin.
