Oscar E. Depping Passes Away

Oscar E. Depping of R.R., Reinbeck passed away Tuesday, July 31, 1979 at 3:22 p.m. at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, from an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. August 3, 1979 at the United Methodist Church in Dike with the Reverend Joseph B. Sibert officiating. Mrs. Alice Mayer played "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great thou Art" as organ interludes. She also played selected numbers for prelude and postlude. The casketbearers were William Bohr, William Sommerlund, D. M. Wagoner, Willys Benson, Charles B. Paige, and Laurence Koch. Ushers were John Mulder, and Russell Hohenberger. Ladies in charge of floral arrangements were Mrs. John Volberding and Mrs. Lawrence Mark. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Friends and relatives were invited to return to the church for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Depping was born July 27, 1920 in Baxter, Iowa. He attained the age of 59 years, 4 days. He was the son of Ernest and Bertha Dee Depping. He lived in the Baster and Rhodes area until his marriage to Bernice Benson on October 26, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in the Dike area where they farmed. He was also a truck driver and a carpenter. He had been in failing health for the last several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, and one sister, Dora in 1978.

Survivors include his wife Bernice, of rural Reinbeck; two sons, Jerry of Dike and Larry at home; two brothers, John of Melbourne, Iowa and August of Baxter; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Klaas and Miss Beatrice Depping both of Melbourne. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
