Rites Held For Clarence Stille

Clarence E. "Bud" Stille, of Dike, passed away Thursday, October 26, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls of natural causes, having attained the age of 72 years 9 months and 26 days.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 29, at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Baptist Church in Dike. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike with full military graveside rites conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471. Pastors Dennis Sanders and Kenneth Wilhite officiated the service.

Pallbearers were Tim Schmidt, Andrew Schmidt, Nathaniel Schmidt, Peter McCloud, Timothy McCloud, Jason Walters, Kerry Eckenrod and Andrew Nielsen. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Jacobs and Dave Winther.

Born December 30, 1922, in Clarksville, Clarence was the son of Edward and Elsie (Hausewirth) Stille. He grew up and received his education in Floyd county, and farmed with his father until entering the United States Army in 1943. Bud served his country during World War II in northern Africa, Casa Blanca, and Naples, Italy.

Upon retiring from the service, Bud was united in marriage to Ramona Blain at her parents' home in Waverly on March 3, 1946. The couple made their home in Nashua where Clarence assisted his father in the plumbing business he had begun during the War.

Clarence was employed over the years by several companies, including Oliver Company in Charles City, Minneapolis-Moline Plow Works in Moline, Illinois, Carnation Milk Company and Schield Bantam Company, both in Waverly, Wilkenson Truck Lines in Dike and by the town of Dike. In 1963, he went to work for John Deere Co. in Waterloo until his retirement in 1983.

In 1991, Clarence became a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Dike. He had previously held membership in the First Baptist Church in Reinbeck for over 30 years. Bud was also a member of the Dike American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona; 1 son, Keith Stille and wife Karen of Woodhull, Illinois; 1 daughter, Pam Willougby and husband William of LaSalle, Illinois; 3 grandchildren, Heather Stille of Dayton, Ohio, and Mark and Shonna Stille of Woodhull, Illinois; 4 brothers, Robert Stille and wife Lorretta of East Moline, Illinois, Kenneth Stille and wife Martha of Silver Lake, Minnesota, Eldon Stille and wife, Mickey of Papillion, Nebraska, and Clyde Stille and wife Helen of Waterloo; and 3 sisters, Lucille Cummins and Mabel Eckenrod and husband Kenneth, all of Waterloo, and Leona Jacobs and husband LeRoy of Clarksville.

The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the professional arrangements.
