Services Held For David C. Walterman

David C. Walterman, age 70, of 308 Daisy St., Dike, passed away at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 7 at the Allen Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one-half day.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 10, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Ernest Philippi officiating. Craig DeBerg sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." He was accompanied by Mrs. Stewart Peters.

Casketbearers were Joe Graves, Gaylen Stewart, George Hansen, Les Marts, Marvin Graves and Uke Lupkes. Ushers were Alvin Flater and Otto Brocka. Mrs. D. E. Cathcart, Mrs. Merlin Menken and Mrs. Uke Lupkes were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, Iowa.

Mr. Walterman was born April 30, 1911 near Parkersburg, Ia. in Grundy County. He attained the age of 70 years, 10 months and 7 days.

He was the son of Casper and Lizzie Aswegan Walterman. He grew up near Parkersburg and attended rural school there. He entered the Army during WW2, and served in the South Pacific. On October 12, 1946, in Unionville, Mo., he was united in marriage to Irene Sessler of Aplington. After their marriage they lived 10 years in Fern where he farmed and did custom work. In December of 1956 he started Walterman Implement in Dike which he ran for over 25 years. They moved and made their home in Dike in 1957.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, since 1946, and he served on the church council. He served on the Dike Board of Education for 17 years and had served as President. He was a veteran of WW2, member of the board of Hawkeye Tech Vocational School, Waterloo, and a past member of the Dike Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; one son, Leon R. Walterman of Dike; one daughter, Mrs. Alan (Donna) Schmeidel of Waterloo; two brothers, Claus Walterman of Maple Manor Nursing Home, Aplington, and Clarence Walterman of Parkersburg; one sister, Mrs. Kate Stahl of Maple Manor Nursing Home; and three grandchildren, Dan and Marie Walterman and Amanda Schmeidel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Luke.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
