Wallace Smith Services Held

Wallace M. Smith died Saturday, November 20, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls of natural causes, having attained the age of 76 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 23, at the Dike United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Thelma C. Subramanian officiating. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Brent Rust, Brian Rust, Bradly Rust, Randal Peters, Jason Ennenga and Daniel Kopplin.

A memorial fund has been established.

Wallace Marvin Smith was born November 29, 1916, in Hartwick, the son of Raymond T. and Maude E. (Showalter) Smith. He attended country school and graduated from Hartwick High School in 1934.

On July 28, 1940, he was united in marriage to Margaret Bradford of Belle Plaine in her mother's home. They lived in Hartwick, moving to Dike in 1942.

Wally worked at the Farmer's Co-op in Dike for 36 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike, and the Dike Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Andrew Kopplin; and one brother, Clyde.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; four daughters, Donna and husband Ronald Rust of Palos Hills, IL, Darlene and husband Joseph Kopplin of Jesup, Dorene and husband Richard Whitman of Banning, CA, and Delores and husband Gary Ennenga of Beaman; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Ralph Smith and wife Clovis of Hartwick; one sister-in-law, Marie Smith of Wheatridge, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Dike Funeral Chapel of Dike is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
