Posekany Services Held

Charlie Posekany, 80, of Dike, passed away at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, May 12, 1981.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike with the Rev. James F. Hanke officiating. Craig DeBerg sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Mrs. John Paige who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. Casket bearers were William Bohr, James Biersner, Chris Freese, Wayne Paige, Ben Clapp, Laurence Koch. Honorary bearers were Larry Hoffman, Cliff Weatherly, Pete Fairbanks, and Merlyn Hickey. John Mulder and Russell Hohenberger were ushers. Floral attendants were Mrs. Lawrence Mark, Mrs. Evelyn Gregory and Mrs. Chris Freese.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Relatives and friends were invited back to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Charlie was born on November 20, 1900 in Vining, Iowa, the son of August David and Elvina Groenwald Posekany. He attained the age of 80 years, 5 months and 22 days. He started working for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company at the age of 16. On April 30, 1920 in Waterloo he was united in marriage to Emma Damm. He worked for the railroad for 50 years mainly as a section foreman. During this time they lived in various communities in Iowa. About 1940 they moved and made their home in Dike. On May 28, 1964 his wife passed away. He retired in 1966 and continued to make his home in Dike. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Leslie, one daughter, Charlotte, five sisters and one great-grandson.

He is survived by his one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Darlene Posekany of Weldon, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Jim McNeil of Concord, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jane Brown of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Leroy (Agnes) Watson of Waterloo, Mrs. Leonard (Frances) Bast of Waverly; three brothers, Lester of Dougherty, Leonard of RR1, Reinbeck and Ralph of New Hartford; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
