Mrs. Gene McBride Dies In Hospital

Mrs. Gene McBride, 39, former Dike resident, died at the People's hospital in Independence July 4.

Funeral servcies were held on Saturday afternoon July 6 at the First Methodist church in Independence with REv. Wayne Carlson in charge. Casketbeares were Charles Main, Frank Snook, Kenneth Lynn, Donald Dayne, Harlan Neilsen and Keith Bowers. Burial was at the Elmwood cmetery at Dike.

Frances Lorraine Lynn was born on April 29, 1924 the daughter of the late Dave and Anna Lynn. She graduated from the Dike school in 1941. June 4, 1944 she was married to Gene McBride, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McBride of Dike.

The couple lived here for a year following their marriage at which time Mr. McBride worked at the elevator. They lived in the state of Washington while Mr. McBride was in service. Following his discharge they lived in Ames while he attended college. After farming near Vinton a short time they moved to the Independence area where they have lived for the past 14 years.

Mrs. McBride was a member of the First Methodist church of Independence, and a member of the Rachel Circle of the WSCS. She served as church secretary for four months prior to becoming ill.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mark of Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., Thomas, 15, Todd, 2; daughter, Lisa, 11; mother, Mrs. Anna Lynn; and a brother, Willis of Cedar Falls.
