Funeral Services For Mrs. Alta P. McBride

Funeral services were held Friday, December 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dike United Methodist Church for Mrs. Alta P. McBride. The Rev. James F. Hanke officiated. Mrs. McBride passed away at Sartori Memorial Hospital at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, December 4.

Mrs. John Paige played Rock of Ages and The Old Rugged Cross as organ interludes. She also played selected numbers for a prelude and postlude. Grandsons of Mrs. McBride served as casketbearers. John Mulder and Russell Hohenberger served as ushers. Mrs. Ben Clapp and Mrs. John Volberding were in charge of floral arrangements. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Friends and relatives were invited to return to the church following committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mrs. McBride was born January 10, 1899 in Paoli, Indiana and attained the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 24 days. She was the daughter of Jonathon and Arvilla Wolfington Marlette. On March 9, 1918 at Paoli, Indiana she was united in marriage to William E. McBride. After their marriage, they lived in LaPorte City for four years, and lived several years in the Buckingham and Traer area. In 1931 they moved to and farmed north of Dike. In 1934, they moved to their farm south of Dike where they farmed 34 years. In 1967, they retired and moved to their home on the west edge of Dike.

Mrs. McBride was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past member of the Grant Homemakers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three grandchildren and three brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Juanita) Jans of Harlan, Iowa, Mrs. J. Gordon (Geneva) McCallum of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. James (Beth) Hall of Chahlis, Washington; three sons, William E. McBride, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, Gene R. McBride of Independence, Iowa, and Ivan L. McBride of Chatham, Illinois; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
