Services Held For Alice K. Mayer, 67
Mrs. Alice K. Mayer of Dike passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, at the Covenant Medical Center-St. Francis in Waterloo.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.
Craig DeBerg sang "How Great Thou Art" and "One Day At A Time." He was accompanied by Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Steve Schissel, David DeBuhr, Herman Bohlen, Marlyn Hulseman, Pat Sirres, and Richard Juhl.
The ushers were Jack Heritage and John Mulder. Mrs. Lawrence Mark and Mrs. Babs Whitney were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.
Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
She was born on January 13, 1919, in Avon, SD, the daughter of Carson and Katie Burfiendt Janssen. She attained the age of 67 years, two months, and 18 days.
She grew up and attended school in Avon, SD, and worked for the Avon Telephone Co. as a switch board operator.
On June 15, 1946, at Dike, she was united in marriage to Helmuth Mayer.
She lived her entire married life in Dike. On April 11, 1966, her husband passed away. After the death of her husband, she worked for several years at the Barn Cafe in Dike, retiring about five years ago.
She was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church, a church organist for the last 20 years, a UMW member, Morning Circle member, a member of the Dike Rebekah's Honor Lodge, past chairman of the Dike Senior Citizens, and a member of the Grant Township Study Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Merl Menken of Dike; one granddaughter, Kimberly; and one grandson, Richard.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
