Katie Kole Services Held

Katie Kole, of Dike, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, January 16, at the Long Term Care Unit of Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, having attained the age of 91 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Dike, with Pastor Charles Layton officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Pallbearers were Jon Hansen, Phil Hansen, Jim Hansen, Mike Squires, Robert Hansen, and Glen Nielsen.

Born September 29, 1905, in Dumont, Katie was the daughter of Popo and Hendericka (Mulder) Stubbe. She grew up and received her education in Butler County and on August 26, 1932, was united in marriage to Marcus J. Kole at Galena, Illinois.

Katie was employed as a cook for the Dike School System, retiring in the late 1950's. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike, and of the Ladies Aide there. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus in 1991; her parents; and 5 brothers, Oliver, George, Paul, Ben and Herman Stubbe.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Marlis Nielsen and husband Harlan of Dike, and Marvel Hansen and husband George of Deer River, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and 4 sisters, Matilda "Tillie" Ainslie of Belmond, Emma Marsh of Clarksville, Gertrude Marsh and husband Ralph of Greene and Viola "Bobbie" David of Dumont.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
